Soon the end will come

Sadly, we are coming to the end of this wonderful journey called the Group Study Exchange. Each of us has been changed by the experience. We have learned how Rotarians open their hearts and their homes to make our experience of their country and traditions unforgetable. In some ways, we become more like our hosts, mimicking the things we like best about them - their easy ways, their ability to enjoy the moment and all that it holds, their manner of making friends from strangers. In very important ways, they become role models for us.

As I prepare to return home, I can not help but think of the many tasks that wait for me. There is the kitchen at Bela Amor that needs replacing and I must find a club to help. There is also the mammogram machine that must be purchased for the community of Bezarro. And, we should definately try to find a way to help ease the sadness of the orphans in Caruaru.

There is no way we can ever thank the people of District 4500 for all that they have given us. But we can join with them in their projects and their hopes for the millions of Brazilians who need Rotary to make their lives more bearable.

  2. Fond Farewell : GSE Team - District 6290 USA

As Rotarians we know that The Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women.
This year our District 4500 had the opportunity to host a marvelous team from District 6290. The team lead by Rotarian Ginny Ryan includes Emily Rose, Leslie Anderson, Chip VanderWier and Matt Pierle. I can't believe you have to leave next Monday already! This month has flown by....
It has been a very big pleasure to have you here – and we do hope that you have enjoyed, what we have prepared for you. None of you knew very much of Brazil, and mainly the area of District 4500 (Northeast Region) before you got started in your preparations. Now you have got your very own experience from being on GSE tour.
You’ve visited several cities, towns and villages like: Petrolina, Bezerros, Caruaru, Caicó, Mossoró, Natal, João Pessoa, Recife and Olinda, not to mention others. I am sure you have now a sample, an idea about our real communities.
We sincerely do hope that you have enjoyed the cultural and touristic part of the tour as well – you even experienced. Now you have got your very own experience from being on GSE tour. I suspect though that – what you will always remember, is the time spent in the homes of the Brazilian Rotarians, and all the new friends you have made during the last five weeks.
It has been a pleasure to meet you all, and to have you here – we do hope, that we will see you all again some day – please do remember to let us know how things go on for you all. Remember you leave an empty spot in the lives of your hosts, when you leave Brazil – this spot will be softened by receiving occasionally e-mails, telling that you are well and remember your friends and your time in Brazil.
Thank you for your visit here and have a safe journey back home. You know that it is very sad to say goodbye.
    Abraços e Beijos!
    Eduardo Jorge Marinho de Queiroz
    District Governor 2008-2009 D.4500
